…in sickness and in health
Tomorrow marks the first day of our residency at the _gaia studio in Jersey City. AM will be driving up from Philadephia to attend the weekly meetings and I will be skyping in from Chicago.
This may sound strange, participating in an art residency via computer monitor, but after having worked together this way for over seven months, this is our reality.
Now don’t get me wrong, we are dying to meet in person. In fact there are multiple offline pieces we plan to jump on the moment we can be together IRL (in real life.) Some of these projects include: building a pimped-out and functional elotes cart, producing a series of blogosphere derivative mural paintings, and designing a line of Self and Other jewelry. But until then, we will continue collaborating over the Internet.
At tomorrow’s meeting AM will be presenting our project proposal to the group. And if all goes according to plan, I will be co-presenting with her from a small window in the corner of her screen. We are hoping this works, but we are also experienced enough to know that you can never really rely on technology 100%, so we are definitely prepared to play it by ear.

And in the meantime please visit our Taking it To Texas campaign. AM and I are trying to raise the necessary $1,500 to fund our trip to to San Antonio, TX, where we will be presenting Are You My Other? at the 2011 National Popular Culture Association Conference, but this time IRL.
